just wondering but why can’t something cute and childish exist without there being a subculture devoted to making it edgy or sexual. like? kirby doesn’t need to be drawn 3,000 times as an eldritch monster with a hyperrealistic mouth and demon eyes. there really isn’t a need for there to be any hentai of the animal crossing villagers, like at all. and alola vulpix definitely does NOT need a 3D butt mouse pad!!!!!!!!!

hey this post is getting taken over by gross people who think they own all children’s media and that drawing copious amounts of gore and porn of it is normal, could i get a few more good reblogs from good people?? it’d mean a lot to me

You forgot the “not”

evenmoreuserboxes

no, i didn’t, actually.

this site is so goddamn anti-recovery. i’ve been spending years trying to get better but everyone’s mindset of “if you spend every hour of every day wanting to kill yourself you’re valid uwu” was just making my health worse. everyone on this site would be doing much better if they would stop being so negative.

it’s as if you want to stay mentally ill. you would think that people so miserable would want their lives to improve. if you want to get any better, stop rejecting every bit of positivity you see and forcing your toxic mindset on others.

op, a reasonable, good egg: “it’s okay to make characters’ skin darker. it doesn’t erase their culture or heritage. dark skinned people of all cultures and heritages exist. darkening a character’s skin does not suddenly make them from a black heritage and culture.”

some fuck who doesn’t understand how melanin works: “this post can’t stop me because i can’t read. op is racist. making japanese people black (aka making their skin darker because god knows those are the same thing apparently) is racist and erases their japanese heritage and culture. black skinned asian people don’t exist that’s ridiculous. i am Very smart.”

the-rice-cat

im not disagreeing but japan is (pretty much) 99% japanese, so it’d be very rare to see a black skinned japanese person! I’d definitely like to see art of that so I don’t get why people think its ridiculous

someoneintheshadow456

OP we ALL know the real reason why people change the skin colour of Japanese and all Asian characters in general (because is2g the same thing happens to Symmetra and Connie). It’s because Tumblr thinks Asians aren’t “real poc”, so they are racebent to look more African to be “more progressive.”

If it’s wrong and racist to whitewash characters, blackwashing should be given the same treatment.

leafeon-the-littlephobe

oh my god these people really exist huh

someoneintheshadow456

Hello I am Indian and I am really tired of the way Asians are treated like shit in progressive circles. How our issues, our representation, our cultures are ignored unless it’s to “stick it to the white man.” How whenever we weigh in our opinions on racial issues we’re seen as “too privileged to be POC” and how we “don’t count.” How we aren’t seen as POC unless we are stereotypical bollywood night and the call centre stereotypes. How if we face racism from other POC we’re told it’s our fault and to get over it.

I’m tired of people saying how whitewashing is racist and rightfully so but saying absolutely nothing when Connie and Symmetra are racebent to have African features despite not being African. Hispanics get the same deal when people complain that Lance “isn’t Cuban enough” because he has medium skin, and in fanart he is given a darker skintone. People cry about how “anime doesn’t have POC” completely ignoring that most anime characters are Japanese, or perhaps it shows that they don’t see Japanese people as POC anyway.

It is definitely erasing culture, but apparently racism against Asians is socially acceptable.

PREACH!

i’m not poc but i’m just as tired of seeing people darkening the skin of asian characters in their fanart or edits because they’re apparently “not poc enough”.

i’ve mostly seen it happen in the bnha fandom, usually to characters like ochako, momo, kirishima, izuku and tsuyu, and it’s so stupid. these characters are already poc, but obviously not to tumblr’s standards! and these so-called artists always give the excuse that asian people with darker skin exist. yeah i know that, but these characters are obviously not dark skinned asians, so what’s the deal?

«representation matters», yes of course it does! but. when you force your own representation over the representation of others, then you’re just being shitty! if you absolutely need a darker skinned character in bnha, then make an oc!

both whitewashing and blackwashing are shitty things to do. just respect the characters for who they are. it’s not that hard.

pick-me-ups for writers

oddhour

for the self-conscious beginner: No one makes great things until the world intimately knows their mediocrity. Don’t think of your writing as terrible; think of it as preparing to contribute something great.

for the self-conscious late bloomer: Look at old writing as how far you’ve come. You can’t get to where you are today without covering all that past ground. For that, be proud.

for the perfectionist: Think about how much you complain about things you love—the mistakes and retcons in all your favorite series—and how you still love them anyway. Give yourself that same space.

for the realist: There will be people who hate your story even if it’s considered a classic. But there will be people who love your story, even if it is strange and unpopular.

for the fanfic writer: Your work isn’t lesser for not following canon. When you write, you’ve created a new work on its own. It can be, but does not have to be, limited by the source material. Canon is not the end-all, be-all.

for the writer’s blocked: It doesn’t need to be perfect. Sometimes you have to move on and commit a few writing sins if it means you can create better things out of it.

for the lost: You started writing for a reason; remember that reason. It’s ok to move on. You are more than your writing. It will be here if you want to come back.

mstie-mountainhop

Never forget this! It is okay if you are struggling with ideas to write about or if people don’t enjoy your work. I struggled with a busy schedule and my worst case of writer’s block this summer and it’s been frustrating to say the least. I’m happy to say that things are starting to look up: I start at college in two weeks and I’ve already discovered and joined a writing club. Also, if anyone is looking for support or feedback, I’m always happy to help and give advice.
